Anurag Basu's Barfi!,
starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz, has added
another feather to it's cap. Two days after being announced as India's
official entry to the Oscars in the foreign language film category, the
critically acclaimed film has made it to the elite Rs 100 crore club.
Barfi! has grossed Rs 100 crore in 10 days since its release on September 14.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted : "#Barfi has grossed 100 cr *worldwide* in 10 days."
Barfi! joins this year's big box office hits Ek Tha Tiger, Bol Bachchan and Rowdy Rathore, all of which have collected Rs 100 crores and over. The film had a powerful box office collection in its opening weekend and was made at a budget of Rs 30 crore.
The film has not only struck a chord with cinegoers, it has also had praise heaped on it by critics and beat 19 other films, including Paan Singh Tomar and Kahaani, to be selected as India's official entry for the 85th Academy Awards to be held in February, 2013.
Barfi!, a tale of relationships between a hearing and speech impaired boy and an autistic girl, opened in approximately 700 screens in India on September 14.
The movie marked the Bollywood debut of southern actress Ileana D'Cruz, who's performance has garnered accolades. (With IANS Inputs)
